Sharon Spaulding
Sharon joined Evergreen in 2017, turning up just as the chorus was preparing for their performance at the Sweet Adelines International Harmony Classic in Las Vegas. Sharon's favorite chorus memory to date is stepping onto the international stage with Evergreen. Competing with Evergreen that day was an experience she will never forget. What made it even more special was the fact that it was her first time competing with Evergreen Chorus. She was so proud to represent Region 15 and to come home with our third-place medal. Read more about the competition.
Sharon heard the chorus sing for the very first time at an Evergreen open house. After her boys were grown, she had been looking for something new, just for herself. And just like that, she was hooked! Sharon currently sings lead with Evergreen and is also the lead co-section leader. She was also recently elected as co-team leader for Evergreen's management team. Sharon sometimes leads vocal warmups and she has also supported Evergreen's finance coordinator with managing dues. Behind the scenes, Sharon works tirelessly to support Evergreen along with her husband and children. Her family is a great help with sound and lighting at our annual shows.
Sharon loves the purity of the vocal sound, the wonderful harmonies in barbershop and the challenge of creating the overtones. Sharon also performs with NYCA Victorian Carolers, a mixed quartet (SATB) donning Victorian costumes. The quartet sings holiday songs at local venues including the Mohonk Mountain House, Kingston Snowflake Festival and the streets of historic Kingston. Sharon was a member of the quartet JiNKS in 2018-2019. In her youth, Sharon participated in various school music groups including select chorus, concert band and marching band.
Through her work at IBM, Sharon applies for matching grants and other "not for profit" programs raising money to support chorus operating expenses. In 2024, she was awarded an IBM Outstanding Volunteer Excellence award, enabling her to contribute additional funds for Evergreen to purchase bluetooth-enabled portable sound equipment and new pitch pipes.
Congratulations and thank you, Sharon!
